" I would have those who would begin to learn the
art of painting do what I see practiced by teachers of writing. They first teach
the signs of the alphabet separately, then how to put the syllables together,
and then the whole words. Students of art should follow this method with
painting." LEON BATTISTA ALBERTI
Geometric Forms
Foundational Drawing offers the opportunity in
which to practice creating the illusion of form. For example, studying
this pure geometric object such as the sphere, allows for the easy discovery of
form. In understanding how light hits a simple object allows us to
understand how light works on more complex forms.
Other basic geometric objects that are studied are
the cylinder, cone and cube.
Gaining a solid understanding of these geometric
objects, creates a foundational base from which to continue with further art
studies.
