Life Drawing - 1

Contour and Gesture:

Contour is commonly defined as “the outline of a figure or body”.  For the purpose of this course we will make the distinction between “contour” and “outline”.  An outline can be thought of as a flat, two-dimensional diagram.  A contour has a three dimensional quality.  It indicates thickness as well as length and width of the form.  It creates a sense of touch. Gesture is the study of action, life and expression.
